Danville ready to
hit the green

 

activities they would like to see, and are developing a master plan, Ritner said.The new Danville Community Band will perform for the Oct. 11 event. They will play traditional favorites the first half of the program, followed by Dixieland music the second half.

Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic suppoers and lawn blankets to enjoy the show.

 

Family event offers an evening of music, magic juggling and a whole lot of clowning around

Danville - The town will hold it's first "Arts on the Green" event this evening, a family affair with juggling, magic - making, clowns, an 11-piece banjo band and free ice cream.The fun takes place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the town green in front of the Danville Library at 400 Front St. and is free of charge. A second day on the green is planned for the same time and place on Oct. 11. Arts commission chairwoman Celeste Evans said the events were conceived by the arts commission and the town to offer the community an enjoyable experience that takes advantage of the town green. "We offer these two events with the vision of expanding the series in the future, and feauturing a wide variety of talent in the various arts that enrich our community," Evans said.
 

Tonight's event features Lovee'E the Clown and her troupe, who are donating their services, said arts commissioner Susan Ritner. Donna Smilow, aka Lovee'E is a trauma surgical nurse-turned-clown. Smilow worked for several years at John Muir Medical Center, but since the birth of her daughter five years ago, she works part-time out of the nurse's registry for several East Bay hospitals. "Clowning is my vocation, my true blessing," Smilow said. Smilow, who is president of the East Bay Clown Club, will bring five of her clowns with her. The East Bay Banjo Club also is volunteering to provide entertainment. Eleven banjos, a tuba and a washboard make up the band that punctiates its music with jokes and one liners. Free ice cream will be served both dates following the live entertainment.
